Happy Happy Happy New Year!

We hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season, and is dodging this darn flu. We rescued so many needy little lives all through the holidays, thanks to your Tails of Joy holiday purchases and support! We want to give another thank you and shout out to our friend Shari Elf, the great artist who raised so much rescue money for us with the auction of her incredible art. Below are the happy stories you made possible. To the rescue organizations listed below, we gave out our “Little Guy Grants” to help with medical emergencies, “nowhere to go and no one to take them” emergencies, food, shelter, spay/neuter and anything and everything else needed to help keep the “little guys” up and running. Thanks to all of you. Here’s to a more loving, kind and humane 2018 for all.

An Evening with Elayne Boosler Benefiting Animal Place

Auburn, California

On February 9th, Elayne Boosler plays the  Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center in Auburn, CA. As in every city she plays, all after show Tails of Joy merchandise will benefit a local rescue organization. This time it’s Animal Place, which saved 4,473 animal lives in 2017! “Animal Place’s California shelters fill a much-needed niche of farm animal rescue, sanctuary, education and adoption. We’re one of the largest and oldest animal sanctuaries in the nation. We operate a 600-acre sanctuary in Grass Valley, California, and a 60-acre animal shelter in Vacaville, California. We extend compassion to all life with a special emphasis on farmed animals, by providing permanent sanctuary, education, legislation and appropriate placement of needy animals. Go Vegan!!”

Forced to admit, this isn’t even my first piggy gig!

Breaking News! Elayne will wrap up 46 years of performing standup comedy after her very last gig on March 3, 2018. She’s going to concentrate on writing her books and rescue. Don’t miss one of your last chances to see her comedy concert LIVE, and help support a fantastic rescue organization!

Delaney’s Dog Rescue

Southern California

Brooks and Dunn were left tied up to a pole at a California shelter in October, 2017. They were a bonded pair who clearly needed to be placed together, which makes it even harder for a rescue organization to commit, as it takes a lot longer to place two dogs in one home. In January, Maureen Delaney of Delaney’s Dog stepped up to save them after tireless efforts by many rescuers, and they are now sure to be placed in a new home and be together forever. Of course, Tails of Joy stepped up financially to help make sure they are taken care of until they are adopted.
Happy New Year Brooks and Dunn!!!

Brooks and Dunn, out of the slammer (almost!)

Ohio SPCA

Farming states have some of the worst laws regarding animal welfare, due to ranchers and meat producers’ lobbying. The Ohio SPCA jumps right in to rescue every kind of animal in the state, and depends solely on donations from the public. We’ve helped feed thirty abused horses before, and today we gave a “Little Guy Grant” to their Emergency Medical Fund for cases including Jingle and Noel, two severely abused little goats (we love goats, they’re awesome!) and Petunia, a four month old kitten hit by a car who needed her leg amputated. All are going to be healthy and happy soon!

Tails of Joy Hero Steve Bluestein

Our author, comedian, TV writer amazing friend Steve Bluestein dedicated his recent birthday to Tails of Joy on facebook. He raised enough money for us to rescue and name a hundred dogs and cats Bluestein, and that’s just what we’re doing, whether they look Jewish or not. Steve is amazing. His standup comedy will floor you, his books will keep you laughing (buy them!!) and his plays will leave you breathless. Follow Steve on facebook for daily coping/laughing/eye-opening takes on our world. He is the best; a comedian, a rescuer, a friend to all. We tried to THANK each and every facebook donor, but all we get is a printout from Network For Good saying “Anonymous” next to each donation. We are so sorry if we did not thank you personally on facebook. We tried, and we thank you from the bottom of our paw pads.

You can still buy the most wonderful gift of all: Wiley Miller’s Non Sequitur’s beautiful cartoon strip, which touched so many people across America and led to a demand for a hand printed, signed to you by Wiley, color copy of the original strip to benefit Tails of Joy. We can never thank our hero, Wiley Miller, enough, for all he continues to do for rescue and desperate animals.

Noah’s Arks Rescue

Ridgeland, South Carolina

Why we donate to Noah’s Arks Rescue whenever we get the chance:

Noah’s Arks Rescue is a 501c3 not for profit organization that supplies emergency medical, surgical and rehabilitation to abused animals. We are not a shelter.  Our wish and lifelong hope is that our Society becomes educated in the ethical treatment of all animals and to stop the senseless killing of animals that have been tortured and abused.”

Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue

We love this all volunteer, all breed dog rescue. We met them when we fundraised for them after a New York show, and continue to donate when we can. They do great work and have great dogs waiting for you.

From Lebanon to Canada

                                                                                                                        Daisy

We met our heroic flight attendant rescuer friend, Cynthia Ashkar, on a flight back from Jordan two years ago. We have been helping her rescue abused dogs from the middle east ever since.

“We need to help these 5 dogs get to Canada so they can have a chance at a decent life. In Lebanon they were abused, beaten, blinded, dumped, shot, raped by humans (hips broken), or bred until they were useless …..can you help us bring them here please?

We are a group of friends that have helped 16+ dogs get to Canada last year, and we have committed to helping  at least 12+ more this year. We always end up using our own funds and it’s not easy on us, as we are just regular people  trying to do our best to save these dogs from a horrible life.We want to change the mentality one story at a time, one SOUL at a time.”

Tails of Joy got the fundraiser started, will continue to help, and we’ll keep you updated on these sweet dogs and their journeys to safety.

Hey Wow – Mosaics!

Cynthia Ashkar, our rescuer/flight attendant friend, is also a renowned mosaic artist, and of course so much of her money goes to rescue. Birthdays for Tails of Joy on facebook

Thank you to everyone who dedicated his/her birthday to fundraising for Tails of Joy on facebook. It means the world to us. We just want to let everyone know that we cannot thank you enough for your donations to friends’ birthdays for us. We see and appreciate every birthday wish and donation. We try to thank everyone personally on facebook. When the check comes from Network for Good it lists every single donation as “Anonymous”. So we try, but if we have not thanked you in the actual thread, please know we are aware of your incredible donation and we thank you thank you thank you for helping us save lives.

The Apple Valley Seven

From a California kill shelter to a ranch in Montana

Zeus                                                                       Maverick                                                    Roxy

We received an email from Alicia Esken, a great individual rescuer friend of ours in California:

I have the opportunity to help rescue SEVEN furkids from the Apple Valley shelter. It’s a tough shelter with a high kill rate. I need to quickly raise the shelter charges for seven dogs including spay/neuter. GROWL Rescue (my friend’s 501(c)(3) on 14 acres in Montana) will take them in and give them the gift of life for the New Year, the best gift ever! They will want for nothing.

Of course we helped Alicia get them out. Us Brooklyn girls gotta stick together.

Desert Dogs Rescue Inc.

Victor Valley High Desert, California

A little senior spaniel left crying alone at the pound. What more need be said? We helped pay the medical and she charmed everyone she met.

We Are Grateful Sanctuary (WAGS)

South central Kansas

WAGS is a sanctuary/adoption center in central Kansas, staffed by volunteers, that takes in many hard to place cases, seniors, and anyone in need. We are happy to help. Check out their many great adoptable cats, dogs, and even some little piggies.

Tank’s Teef and Tushy Fund

Redford, Michigan

Our facebook Peep Sarah Ripley found herself with her beloved Tank’s medical emergencies and no way to cover such big bills. She started a YouCaring page for Tank. We pinned it to the top of our Tails of Joy facebook group, and our kind, animal loving Peeps have been donating. We’ve already got enough for Tank’s first trip to the oncologist. Thank you all so much for helping our friend save her sweet boy.

Chillicothe Animal Clinic

Ohio. Margie Geeb, Independent Rescuer

Proving once again that one person can make a difference, this month Margie Geeb again trapped feral cats and took them to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and then released back into the colony. This exponentially cuts down on thousands of feral cat births, sparing them short, painful lives in the streets.  “Edith and Julie’s Spay and Neuter Fund at Tails of Joy” was happy to pay the bills.

Mutt Hut Rescue

Southern California

“We are a Rescue Organization who saves the unwanted, abused, forgotten, un-loved, dogs of Southern California. We are a foster based rescue with animals in Ventura County, Los Angeles, Orange County, Antelope Valley, Inland Empire, Riverside County and surrounding areas. We rescue all breeds, all sizes and all ages. Our Rescue runs solely on donations. All of our animals receive the best veterinarian care, they are up to date on their shots, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and more!”

Baja Animal Sanctuary

“In 2017 we placed 324 dogs and 95 cats in their forever homes!
We took in 346 dogs and 84 cats.
We presently have 312 dogs and 78 cats at the Sanctuary.
We spayed/neutered 745 animals!”

And this is why Tails of Joy helps Baja Animal Sanctuary whenever we have the funds.
