Tales of Tails of Joy
Newsletter - 2011
Dear Tails of Joy Peeps, Members, Friends,
Thank you so much for joining and supporting Tails of Joy with your kindness and generosity. We love Happy Endings (not in a massage parlor sort of way). Despite the continuing poor economy, where animals suffer the most, we were able to give out our “Little Guy Grants” to the smallest, neediest rescues across the country. All your donations do add up to make a difference in the lives of homeless, injured, abandoned, animals. And your name on the cause gives us strength in numbers when advocating for needy animals. We are all volunteer, and I underwrite the operating costs, so 100% of every dollar you donate goes directly to helping actual animals. Thank you.

Tiny T after surgery, after which she found her forever home.
I know I was not quick with my “thank you’s” throughout this year. I used to thank everyone immediately, because I know money is tight everywhere, and I want everyone to know how meaningful your donations are to us. This year, rescue took all the “spare” time (ha), and we were always under the gun. Though I dropped the ball on sending out thanks in a timely manner, I want everyone to know I saw each and every donation come in, and was so thankful for every one. I will get my thank you’s out to all this week, but please know you did not donate into a void; every donation was seen, and so gratefully
appreciated. As I always say, if a rescue organization thanks you in a timely manner, it’s not busy enough rescuing animals.
SHOPPING
This year we have some wonderful, talented friends donating some of their profits to us from sales of great books and music, so please check it out for your shopping needs:
What's Happening
HAPPY ENDINGS
Below is a partial list of how we distributed your donations in 2011, often donating more than once to each over the course of the year. We helped hundreds of animals through these organizations. Sometimes donations were specific; Georgia’s heartworm treatment, Herbie’s surgery, Penny’s surgery, wheels for Teddy to get around, whole groups of sweet pitties saved together from squalor and boarded until a place could be found, Moe and Sugar’s medical expenses, or bail for sweet Molly. We made the grants, you made it possible.

Nothing gives like the gift of a warm bed and a life free of fear and pain. If you can donate this holiday season, thank you. If you can’t, no worries, we are so happy you are here to share your love of animals with us. Wishing you and yours a happy holiday, and a happy, healthy, joyful and wonderful new year. You have helped us provide just that for so many people and animals this year, may it shine back upon you at least seven fold. Thank you so much!

Why Give To Us When You Want to Donate?
Most people think that any “humane society” is set up to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals. That is not the case. Often, much of your money goes to salaries, pension plans, expenses, and more fundraising. Some actually do no hands on rescue of companion animals at all. The Humane Society of the United States does NO hands on rescue, runs no dog/cat/ sheltering or adoption facilities, and uses less than five cents of every dollar donated for animal related issues. And they take hundreds of millions of dollars out of the community, from good people who think they are donating to an org. that actually runs an animal rescue. That is not the case with Tails of Joy. Please, no matter where you donate, make it to small, local, rescue groups who get more bang for the buck, or groups like Tails of Joy who use volunteers, know the good groups across America, and use 100% of your donation to rescue animals.

Tales of Joy!
Dear Tails of Joy Peeps, Members, Friends,
Thank you so much for joining and supporting Tails of Joy on facebook, myspace, twitter, here, and elsewhere. You made 2010 a banner year for saving lives, with your kindness and generosity. Despite the poor economy, we were still able to give out our “Little Guy Grants” to the smallest, neediest rescues across the country. All your donations, from the smallest to the largest, do add up to make a difference in the lives of homeless, abandoned animals. Thank you.

Lily getting surgery in Ohio
We are all volunteer, and I underwrite operating costs, so every penny of your donations goes to the animals. Whether it was getting Maggie the Yorkie out of a puppy mill after four years, letting her paws feel the earth for the first time; or rebuilding Humpty the white Shepherd’s face after he was shot, we helped. We got dogs and cats out of pounds in the nick of time. We bought enough Igloo doghouses for a rural shelter to save and house an extra 20 animals at all times. We helped Shakespeare the Bulldog get eye surgery, we helped pregnant mama pitties and their pups, we helped seniors find some comfort and love in their old age. We helped Project Flying Chihuahua fly hundreds of dogs to the east coast where homes were waiting for them. We helped confiscate infant bunnies from the selling alleys of Los Angeles, and we helped wildlife centers and exotic animal sanctuaries. Hundreds of lives were saved, homes were found, and animals and people fell in love and started new lives together, thanks to you.

Helen and Henry: "Seniors for Seniors"
Because of the economy, this year we helped many individual pet owners whose pets had medical emergencies, or needed food, medicines, and supplies. Many of those we helped found us through facebook and twitter.

That is not the case with Tails of Joy. We have a very strict set of guidelines to determine where your money goes to do the most good. We take the time and make the considerable effort to check out every organization, verify the veracity of every request, before we donate. We put your money where it is needed most. We take the time to do it right, and we follow up.
