Inner Strength

If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills,
If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time,
If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can do all these things,
Then you are probably the family dog.

THANK YOU for spotlighting the plight of Florida greyhounds! Our quest to get these magnificent dogs into good and loving homes is endless, and the plight of Florida greyhounds is the most extreme in the country. Florida has 16 active tracks and since that state is saturated with the breed, we do our best to get them out of Florida and into our adoption programs in the northeast. It's a battle in so many ways. Giving these dogs exposure is a wonderful thing.

Thanks again!

Victory for the Greyhounds!
Please Thank Senator Ginny Burdick for Fighting for the Greyhounds

Friends:

Due to the hard work of Oregon Defenders of Greyhounds, an attempt to expand dog racing in Oregon has been defeated.

Last week, House Bill 3646 passed the Oregon legislature after being amended with a provision that prohibits greyhound racing from expanding to a year-round season.

Many greyhound advocates and lawmakers had a hand in this important victory, including GREY2K USA Vice President Christine Dorchak, Jill Buckley of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Sally Mackler of Humane Oregon PAC, and State Senator Charles Starr.

The participation of one State Senator, however, stands out. Senator Ginny Burdick from Portland stood firm against the dog track lobbyists when this bill was heard in the Senate Rules Committee, and was responsible for ensuring that greyhound racing was not allowed to expand.

Please write Senator Burdick today and thank her for her courage in protecting greyhounds. You can reach her at:

Hi Elayne - Can't tell you how proud all of us in Greyhound Rescue are of you and your decision NOT to participate in the Greyhound Racing symposium in Tucson!!! Woman, you've got I. T. !!! I know that it was hard to do on a professional level as no one like to cancel a gig, but your principles held, and you did it. Heck, maybe it wasn't that hard, but it sends a clear message to the industry.......despite their high-priced PR smokescreen they put up about promoting adoption and now ONLY 7,000 Greyhounds are euthanized annually instead of 30,000 in the old days.....they still have a serious public image problem stemming from galloping animal welfare issues. By the way, I hear that their PR person used to be one of the head PR folks for the furrier industry.

I've been at this almost 10 years now and while things are improving (mostly because of tenacious, tireless rescue folks), last month, (NAME) Kennels in Mobile put down 20 greyhounds, after giving our rescue 3 days notice to get them out "or else". Given all the various Fall track closings around the country, we couldn't move them out fast enough, and now they are dead. We are heartsick. We have a list of their names. The ones we lost, and it happens every day.

Thank you SO very much for taking a stand against Greyhound Racing!!! It's often public personalities such as yourself that can make a huge impact, such a difference in educating the public.
I was always a huge fan of yours, now my dogs are too!!!

Elayne,

I saw your dog site and thought you might like to read a story I found on the net. I have an adopted dog too and this story hit home.

Dear
Readers,
This was a great story.

Hi,
Just want to say thanks for canceling your appearance at the greyhound racing show. We, who love greyhounds and want to end the killing of greyhounds in their prime, applaud you.
Bensalem, PA

Just wanted to send you a quick email and say THANK YOU! Good for you for turning the racing show down. Your action means a lot to the people working to rescue animals from the stupidity and cruelty of human beings.
If you do a show in Michigan please let me know so that we may cheer you on and make up for your lost pay check. :)

Elayne,
I just wanted to drop you a quick message to express my admiration for the decision you made to refuse to perform at the Racing Symposium. Making this decision meant putting ethics before money - which is not something many people will do in this day and age! - and recognizing the evil perpetuated on a daily basis by the people that claim that greyhound racing is a "sport", rather than a bloodbath.

The greyhound racing industry will always try to deny the truth, and will try to sugar-coat what they do, for to admit that their profits come at the cost of thousands of greyhound lives annually will insure their eventual demise. Their pockets are deep, and their lobbying efforts are difficult to overcome, but with time, patience, and the efforts of people such as you, we will eventually overcome them. Once more, thank you for the sacrifice you made. Greyhounds everywhere thank you for it as well.
Sincerely,
Nan
