JUNE ACTION ALERT – URGENT – DO IT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alabama Attorney General BILL PRYOR, the man we have featured on this website all year for his refusal to prosecute the heinous, sadistic murder of a puppy, and the abuse of the two children forced to watch, despite a yearlong effort by the lawyers of the Humane Society of the United States, and anguished public outcry, has just been nominated to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals by George Bush. This is a lifetime appointment to a federal court.

HERE IS MORE OF PRYOR'S RECORD:

1. Under Pryor, Alabama was the only state to challenge the constitutionality of a provision of the Violence Against Women Act.

2. Pryor wrote an article arguing the federal government should remove itself from efforts to protect women from violence.

3. Pryor is the only one of the nation's attorneys general to challenge the constitutionality of provisions of the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act.

4. Pryor argued that the Supreme Court should cut back on the protections of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

5. Pryor testified before Congress, supporting repeal of important provisions of the Voting Rights Act.

6. Pryor argued that execution of mentally retarded inmates does not violate the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court again rejected his argument.

7. Pryor does not recognize the separation of church and state; look up his record for all the ways that belief has affected his actions in court.

8. Pryor vehemently opposes freedom of choice and called Roe v. Wade "the worst abomination of constitutional law in our history".

9. As one of the founders of the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), Pryor helped create a system whereby Republican attorneys general solicit campaign contributions from corporations under investigation

10. Pryor has successfully urged the Supreme Court to roll back federal protections against age discrimination and discrimination against people with disabilities.

11. Pryor filed an anti-gay brief on behalf of Alabama, urging the Supreme Court to uphold Texas' law banning same-sex sodomy.

12. Pryor tried to gut the Family and Medical Leave Act. His brief was rejected by Chief Justice Rehnquist, writing for the majority.

Is this the man you believe deserves a lifetime appointment to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals? You decide. The vote in congress is coming up very soon. Whatever you decide, you MUST take action. Email your senators and congresspeople and tell them how you feel. Ask them to do what you believe is right. DO IT TODAY!!!!!

Tiger

THANK YOU TO OUR ACTION LIST. YOU SAVED TIGER!

Tiger is a staffordshire terrier who spent all the years of his life at the end of this chain. Finally abandoned, he was headed for the pound to be killed when Tails of Joy, Paw’d Squad, and all of you stepped in. Thanks to you, this loving sweet boy is now healthy, happy, and ready for his forever home.

Tiger now, thanks to you

Parakeet Petition Update
THANK YOU TO OUR ACTION LIST. YOU MADE THE LAW WORK.
Update: NY Cruelty Charges Upgraded to Felony

“Following a flood of phone calls and emails from across the country, the Suffolk County, NY, District Attorney's office has upgraded the charges against alleged animal abuser Timothy Guider from a misdemeanor to a Class E felony. Guider had been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty earlier this year after he allegedly set his family's parakeet on fire, paraded the bird's dead body in front of peers at a New Year's Eve party, and posted photos of the incident on the internet.”

Why is “justice” for a parakeet important? Animal cruelty indisputably escalates to violence against people (Humane Society of the U.S. First Strike Study). By getting the judge to understand this important link, YOU have made a difference for the future.

Senseless slaughter of a family's pet by a trigger-happy police officer

The Cooke County, Tennessee police department "finds that no excessive force was used" in blowing the head off a tail wagging family dog, whose death they directly caused by refusing to simply close the car door after removing the occupants. The (innocent) mother, father, and teenage son who were on their knees, handcuffed on the ground in a mistaken traffic stop, begged the officers to close the car door for the dogs' safety, and repeatedly assured the officers the family pets were friendly, begging for their dogs' lives as an officer decapitated their dog with a shotgun.

These were tourists passing through Tennessee, stopped by mistake.

Whatever culture, whatever training, whatever Tennessee
police "leadership" taught those "officers" that conducting terrorist
attacks on innocent civilians, ignoring their pleas for mercy and
slaughtering an innocent pet with a barrage of ammo fire (and then
lying about it when their own police car video tape proves what
actually happened) must be changed.

We cannot allow gestapo thugs in police
uniforms to conduct terrorist operations as a "normal way of doing
business." THIS SHOULD BE A CALL TO ACTION.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR EMAILS. (PLEASE DO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD, EVEN A FEW LINES IS ENOUGH TO BE COUNTED)

The Cookeville, Tennessee Police Department, District 5, listed below, has started an investigation. We need to let them know the nation is watching. Over the next several weeks, please work your way through the list below with (polite but stern) phone calls, letters, and/or emails, and make these points.

1. We will not give one penny to the Tennessee tourist industry until you train your police force to deal correctly with FAMILY PETS AND PEOPLE.

2. We request that the authorities take responsibility for mishandling the situation.

3. If this is "standard procedure", as claimed, and not considered "excessive force", as claimed, we demand police procedures be changed. We demand THIS procedure be put in place:

When pets are in the car after you've taken "suspects" out, make it standard police procedure to SHUT THE CAR DOOR.

4. The video of the tail wagging dog, whose family assured the officers the dogs were friendly and begged the officers to shut the car door to keep the dogs from getting killed on the highway, clearly shows the dog was no threat before the police blew his head off. The officer then filed a false report. Any officer of the law filing a false report should be disciplined and fired. He does not "serve the people". He should not be on the people's payroll. He should not be carrying a gun.

5. Procedures and training need to be changed.

One letter from a reader.

Dear Editor:

I had planned a trip to Tennessee this summer with a small group of my university history students. We were going to tour Civil War battlefields in several locations. Problem: I was going to bring my two dogs on the trip.

The Tennessee trip has been cancelled, including all the motel reservations. The motels were told why they will not be getting our money. I will, however, take my students (and dogs) to another state and, rest assured, we will not even drive through Tennessee to get there.

Get Real, Dr. Phil

On his show last week (right before Thanksgiving), Dr. Phil was giving a family advice on how to cut their budget. He advised them to get rid of all their children's pets. Appalling, on every level. Below is one letter sent by a rescue worker, and here is where you can email the Dr. Phil show and make your voice heard. Pets are members of the family. They are not disposable. And what could he possibly know about children to make such an ignorant and harmful suggestion? This man gets PAID to give ADVICE?

Below is one letter sent by a rescue worker, and here is where you can email the Dr. Phil show and make your voice heard. Pets are members of the family. They are not disposable. And what could he possibly know about children to make such an ignorant and harmful suggestion? This man gets PAID to give ADVICE?

To Dr. "Get Real" Phil,

Do you realize that your recent advice to the family experiencing financial difficulties that they get rid of the family pets is tantamount to telling them to kill the animals?

If you operate under the mistaken delusion that these animals could be turned into a shelter where they would then be adopted into new homes, you need to "get real."  Very few animals picked up as strays or turned in to shelters ever leave.  The few who do are usually puppies and kittens, not mature animals like this family had.  Even the young animals are fortunate if they are adopted out and most remain among the more than five million companion animals killed in shelters each year in this nation simply because there aren't enough homes for them.

Undoubtedly, this family should have been advised not to take on any additional responsibilities that come with adopting an additional pet.  But I strongly disagree with your advice that they tighten the family budget by killing off the pets they already have.

Pets can play an invaluable role in a family.  Children, especially, can learn important lessons about trust, responsibility, respect for life, commitment and so many other values through a pet and the family's treatment of that pet.  What does it teach a child about commitment if parents break the commitment made to a pet by tossing it aside when it's no longer convenient to keep it?  What respect for life will they be taught by parents who allow the family pets to be killed because they are viewed as an unnecessary expense?  What is the lesson to these children about being responsible if they see their parents disavow the responsibilities they took on for these animals' lives when they adopted them?  What trust will the children have for these parents who seem to offer love and security one day to a pet, but the next day allow it to be killed because it didn't fit into the new budget?

While I disagree with your advice to this family, I have no doubt that you stand behind it.  When it comes to issues like trust, respect, commitment and responsibility, I think my views must be very different from yours.  In a recent article, your first wife was quoted, saying about the end of your marriage to her, "When I confronted him about his infidelities he didn't deny these girls and told me that it had nothing to do with his feelings toward me, to grow up, that's the way it was in the world."

Is Dr. Phil a person who honors his commitments?  Does he keep his vows and live up to his responsibilities? Does he show respect and can he be trusted?

Get real

Action Update

On his show right before Thanksgiving, Dr. Phil gave a family advice on how to cut their budget. He advised them to get rid of all their children's pets. Appalling, on every level. Thanks to all of you who emailed the show. Here is the update:

Neither Dr. Phil nor anyone from his show ever answered any of these emails that we know of.

Dr. Phil never changed or amended this awful "advice" on the air.

After renting a house in Beverly Hills for $20,000 per month, Dr. Phil, the man who told a family to get rid of their children's beloved pets to save money, just bought a Beverly Hills home for $7.5 million. Congratulations!
