                               FACTS

Commercial sealing is an off-season activity carried out by fishermen from Canada's East Coast. It solely benefits the fur industry.

Even in Newfoundland, where more than 90% of the sealers live, sealing income accounts for less than 1 percent of the gross domestic product.

Seal clubbers earn about one-twentieth of their annual income from sealing.
 
Canada could earn astronomically more from eco-tourism. Just as whale watching has become a lucrative industry, Newfoundland’s hotels, restaurants, shops and boats  could prosper from people’s desire to see LIVE harp seal nurseries 

If you are buying snow crabs. Make sure they are from Alaska and not Canada.   

Other seafoods that come primarily from seal hunting provinces include: cod, cold-water shrimp, Prince Edward Island mussels, and scallops.   Don’t buy them.

The Humane Society of the United States' "First Strike" study proves conclusively that violence against animals escalates to violence against people. Almost every serial killer began by torturing animals. So demanding prosecution for heinous crimes against helpless animals actually makes society safer for everyone; animals, you, your parents and your children. In the past year alone, many horrific cases that were initially dismissed eventually were taken seriously when the officials charged with protecting the public realized that the public was actually paying attention.

It doesn't always work. Last year in Winston County Alabama, Attorney General Bill Pryor, despite learning of alleged witness intimidation, refused to re-instate charges against Will Robinson, a man eye witnesses (neighbors) testified shot his puppy for going into the trash in search of food, then doused the puppy with gasoline and burned him alive in front of his two young children. The neighbors testified they even heard the screaming puppy's lungs explode. It is reported Mr. Robinson has gotten himself a new puppy.
